বাড়ি ফিরে স্যাম হতাশায় ঘুমিয়ে পরে।  হিরদয়ের সমস্ত শক্তিটুকু  যেন ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছে শেষ বারের মত। 
ঘুমের মধ্যে সে সপ্নে দেখতে পেল তার বেকারত্বের বেহুশে সে বত সংঘাহীন এবং এক। 
যে সমস্ত খাবার টেবিল এর পাশে সাজানো আছে 'তাতে আরশোলা।, ইদুর টিকটিকে বাঘ বসিয়ে খেলা করছে।
যেন পরম অন্নান্দে তারা ডিনার সারছে। 
স্যাম বসে আছে যেখানে।,সেখানে একটি ছেড়া কাগজ তার অদূর ভাবিষতের ঠিকানা বহে চলেছে। 
সে জানে না তাতে কি লেখা তবু তারই আদলে সেই সপ্নময় ঘোরে সে দেখতে পেল , সে একটি শববাহী 
নিত্য যাত্রীদের গরুর গাড়িতে বসে আছে। 
সে তাদের সাথে কখন কিভাবে মিশে মাইল ক্রোশ পথ পেরিয়েছে এবং ছিপছিপে বৃষ্টি ঘন মেঘের 
আড়ালে তাদের সাথে জল ও কাট যোগার করার উদ্দোগ করার প্রয়াস করছে 
রাত তখন ১০ সশান এর নিত্য যাত্রীদের ভির প্রতিদিনের মত আজ বড় জেকে বসে আছে.
তার বিনিময়ে সে কিছু অর্থ সাহায্য লাভ করছে। 
সে ভাবলো এই শব্ টি বুঝি শেষ শব্ , এই সসানে কিন্তূ একটির পর একটি শবের জমছে। 
সপ্ন হতেও সে বৃতিস্ন হে জেগে ওঠে!

আজকাল একগ্লাস জল খেতে যেন তার ইছা  করে না।  তবু আজ্জ তার বড় জল পিপাশা বোধ হছে। 
এই সমাজের ঘেরা টপের নিজ ও ওপর মানুষের ভিরে সে আজ বড় ক্লান্ত।
বাহিরে প্রচুর দেনা।
তার দরজার আড়াল হতে এক চালতি চাঁদের আলো তার ঘরটিকে আলো ও অন্ধকারময় হতাশায় ভরিয়ে  
কিঞ্চিত তাকে চেতনায় সৃতির জগতে নিয়ে চলে। 
এখানে তার আদিপত্তি একদিন বেশ ছিল এ বারের বন্নায় তার ৩ টি সন্তান মারা যায় 
তার স্ত্রী কমায় আছন্ন। 
দোকানি আজ তাকে আর বড় খাতির করে না.
৩ পুত্রের শোকে সে বড় বিহল। 
তার আজ সপ্ন হতে জেগে উঠে মনে হলো জীবনের সবটুকু শক্তি বুঝি আজ তার শেষ হয়নি আরো কিছু 
দুর্ভোগের সাথে হয়ত তার জীবন অবসান ঘটবে। 
সে মনে একটু জোর করে শসানের নিকট যাত্রা সুরু করে। 
যেতে যেতে ভাবে এমন পুঁজি হীন জীবন ও বানিজ্য সত্যি তার এখন বড় দরকার। 
এখানে নেই কোনো দায় কোনো বারতি শোকের ছায়া 
শোকের মধ্যে সে নিজের চেতনার আস্তিত খুঁজে পেতে চায় 

সে যখন সসানে পৌছালো তখন রাত ১০
সে হটাত ভাবলো ভালো তার কাপনের কাপড় হতে  হয়ত বা তার শরীর বঞ্চিত হবে না। 
তার স্ত্রীর কোনো ঘুমরে মরতে হবে না এর জন্য। 
তার হাতে আর সময় নেই সে শরীরের সমস্ত অলস তা ও হতাশা তাগ করে নিজের মত করে যাত্রীদের 
সাথে কাজ সুরু করে। 
আকাশ হতে মেঘের গর্জন মাঝে মাঝে সশান স্পষ্ট দেখা যাছে শব যাত্রীদের বসার ঘর হতে কৃতন্নের মহড়া 
বসেছে তারই শব্দ র ছন্দে ও বিদ্যুতের জল্কায় বৃহত আকৃতির শিব মূর্তিটি তার মনে এক গভীর বাস্ততার 
রাশ সঞ্চার করছে!
সে পর পর দুটি বিড়ি ও শব শেষ করে। 
কিন্তূ একটু পরেই বাধে দম্দের সাথে বসচা শক্ত সমর্থ দম গুলি তাকে বেশ প্রহার করে শসান থেকে বিতার্ত করে দেয়। 

সে বাড়ি ফিরে ভাবে এখনই তার এইলোক র আসাহ শেষ।  ৩ দিন জ্বরে  ভোগার পর সে মারা যায়।
